A quaint cobbled passageway opposite the bus station car park leads to one of Holmfirth’s most historic old buildings, and now the home of Daisy Lane Books.
The 250 year old building, in the shadow of the parish church, is well worth a visit for a least two reasons. Not only is the building part of town’s heritage, it is also the home of a thriving shop, specialising in good quality secondhand books. Whatever the subject, you are likely to find the type of book you are looking for after a little browsing. As you wander round you will see shelf after shelf crammed full with volumes on everything under the sun. if you do not immediately find what you are seeking, just ask for assistance.
There has in fact been a bookshop here for 25 years, but the present owner Barry Townsend-Cardew came when his parents bought the shop in 1990 and suggested he should see if he would like to join them. Obviously he liked what he saw and has been here ever since.
Probably we can do no better that quote the words of one or our younger customers – wide selection of books at reasonable prices, open seven days a week’ all sorts of music played while you browse, first editions available, maps and atlases, art books. Great books and two adorable cats.
So what more need we say – why not pay us a visit.
