Ruth Notman burst into the limelight as an 18 year old in 2007 with a highly acclaimed album Threads. Rarely has an artist’s first album had such a huge impact on the folk scene. It went on to receive plaudits in The Independent, The Guardian, Mojo among many others while Bob Harris invited her onto his Radio 2 show to play live. A further highly successful album followed 2 years later before she disappeared from the scene to pursue her academic studies. She has returned to music in the last year with a new album with Sam Kelly and is back out on the road again. Ruth was the second person we booked to appear at Hepworth back in our very first season in 2009 and we are delighted to welcome her again, sharing the stage with Chris
Conway and Dan Britton. Blending a West Coast US sound with touches of Celtic and jazz, Chris and Dan are a powerful multi-instrumental duo of singer-songwriters who have played together for 27 years. Their third album Safe Harbour got great reviews and another is on the way. Together they have supported Bob Geldof, Jefferson Starship, Country Joe McDonald, and Roy Wood. As well as their solo careers they are also part of the popular Celtic band Govannen, who have sold 15,000 albums worldwide. Making a full band sound between them, with guitars, keyboards, Irish whistles, and kalimba, there is a seamless blend that only such a long association brings.
