Post Title: Play Worker
Hours: 10 hours per week
Wage: £9.50 per hour
An opportunity has arisen for a Play Worker to join a small team in supporting the work of the Club Manager in providing after-school childcare at the Tiger Club. The Tiger Club is a not-for-profit breakfast and after-school club providing wrap-around care to children attending Holmfirth Junior, Infant and Nursery school. A vacancy has arisen for a permanent play worker to undertake ten hours per week between 3:30pm and 5:30pm Monday to Friday, term time only.
About the Post
The Play Worker will work under the overall direction of the Club Manager who is accountable to the Club Committee, working in partnership with colleagues, parents, the school and relevant agencies appropriate to the needs of the children. Part of the role will also include domestic duties and basic food preparation.

1. Working with children
The Play worker will:
1.1 Assist in the planning of stimulating and developmental activities as appropriate to facilitate the holistic development of individuals and groups of children;
1.2 As a key person, be responsible for the holistic development of a small group of young children. Liaise with parents and carers as appropriate, keep structured records of children within the key group and facilitate a broad and balanced curriculum by monitoring and evaluating children’s progress and planning next steps for further development;
1.3 Provide all aspects of basic care for children;
1.4 Be responsible for supervising children during snack times whilst ensuring that all food and drink is suitable for their needs;
1.5 Supervise the children at play, both inside and outside the Club building, to ensure their safety and welfare;
1.6 Be responsible for walking children between the School and the Club.
2. Working as Part of a Team
2.1 To attend meetings as necessary relevant to the performance of the key worker;
2.2 Undertake relevant training to enhance the performance of professional duties and personal development;
2.3 To assist in the monitoring and evaluation of practices, policies and procedures as necessary;
2.4 To liaise with team members as required to highlight particular needs of individual children, within the Key group.
3. Duties Associated with the day-to-day running of the CLub
3.1 Assist in the supervision of individuals or groups of children to ensure their well- being and safety;
3.2 Assist in the promotion of a quality curriculum that upholds established Club policies, regarding sensitivity to the needs and requirements of different ethnic, cultural and social backgrounds and to provide a curriculum which supports the community;
3.3 Presentation of children’s work and the compilation of displays;
3.4 Maintenance of equipment and materials in the Club;
3.5 To be responsible for domestic duties including tidying, cleaning and washing-up within the Club.
To carry out your duties with due regard to current and future Club policies, procedures and relevant legislation under the direction of the Club Manager. These will be drawn to your attention during your induction and through ongoing performance review.
The Play Worker must:
- be able to relate well to children and adults;
- be able to communicate effectively;
- have a friendly, professional and respectful approach;
Preferred requirements (not essential)
- Prior experience of caring for children in a nursery/school/after school-club or similar setting
- NVQ Level II in Playwork or Childcare
